Mixed Media Landscapes ~ Yr 3-6

I did this project with Year 3/4, but would be really great do with Year 5/6 (11-12 year olds). Firstly, students viewed and analysed different types of landscapes by Australian artists, including Streeton, Drysdale, McCubbin, Namitjira, and Nolan.

Students began this project by choosing an Australian landscape type they wanted to depict. We sorted photos into the following categories: Beach, Bush, Mountains, Desert, River and Rain forest.

Students Began by mixing paint colours to match their photo to paint the background/ underneath layer of their landscape inside a sturdy box lid.

Next lesson they began to texture such as sand, tissue paper, bark, etc to the background- furthest away, moving to middle ground and then foreground. When complete they thought of an interesting title for their landscape and filled out a reflection/ evaluation sheet which was stuck to the back of the box.

Peter Diem inspired Cow sculpture~ Year 3-4 art lesson

Students used a combination of materials to make these Peter Diem inspired models.

The Body & Head:

Air dry clay was used to form the body. Students formed a small pinch pot into a rounded shape, pulling and shaping legs so that it would stand. The head is using paper clay like Crayola Model Magic over a cork.

Paper clay / Model Magic is formed into thin rolls or shapes and pressed onto the body to add pattern, colour and TEXTURE.

‘The Love Monster’ Guided drawing: Foundation – Year 2

This was a great remote art lesson for the younger children. I posted a link for the story on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIva59P4HiY&t=54s and made a video of the steps to draw the Love Monster (Prep version- no arms or feet, Year 1/2 version with the arms and feet!) I also discussed the use of PRIMARY COLOURS, red, blue and yellow, and the use of TEXTURE- using lines for the fur.

LEARNING INTENTION: To follow guided instruction to draw the Love Monster. We will use SHAPE, LINE, TEXTURE and COLOUR to complete our picture.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: I can follow the guided instruction to draw the SHAPE of the Love Monster, including eyes, mouth and a heart. I can use short LINES to add TEXTURE for fur. I can colour in using the PRIMARY COLOURS, red, yellow and blue.

Autumn Texture Trees- Foundation to Year 1 Art lesson

Foundation (Prep) students loved experimenting with the effects of texture wands and implements before choosing one to create the Autumn leaves on their textured tree.

These artworks took three lessons (though they could be done in two), but there were great art concepts for learning the elements of art along the way. One element was texture – the bark of the tree and the leaves themselves. The other element we looked at was colour, and specifically warm colours.
